Healthy Alternative to the Sports Beverage

By Julie Dikken & Jenna Martin January 4, 2022
With new year goals and resolutions in full swing (not to mention winter and spring sports gearing back up), busy parents are looking for healthy alternatives to keep themselves and their kids hydrated. Skip the sugar and create your own! You will save money, your family's health, and peace of mind.

Here's a way to replace store-bought sports drinks with a homemade version.

You'll need:
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1/2 cup all-natural juice (I used black cherry)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • Sweetener to taste (honey, stevia or agave all work great)
Place crushed ice in a container with a lid (I used a mason jar). Add coconut water, juice, lemon juice, and sea salt. Place lid securely on jar and shake well. Add sweetener to taste. Serve cold. Makes about 4-5 servings.

This drink can be served "as is" or mixed with a 1/4 c water, depending on your or your child's preference. Try experimenting with other flavors of fruit juices for a sure to please, made to replenish beverage!
