What is WIC?

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children- better known as the WIC Program- serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.

Population Served

Who can participate in the WIC Program?

  • • Pregnant women
  • • Breastfeeding moms (up to baby’s 1st birthday)
  • • Non-Breastfeeding Postpartum moms (up to 6 months after delivery)
  • • Infants (up to 1st birthday) WIC SERVES 53% OF ALL INFANTS BORN IN THE UNITED STATES
  • • Children (up to 5th birthday)

Applicants must live in Indiana and meet income guidelines. Check the prescreen link below.

Benefits

The following benefits are provided to WIC participants:

  • Supplemental nutritious foods (milk, cheese, cereal, eggs, fruits and vegetables, etc.)
  • Nutrition education and counseling at WIC clinics
  • Breastfeeding support with a peer counselor and designated breastfeeding expert
  • Screening and referrals to other health, welfare, and social services.

How do I sign up?

Call your local WIC Clinic, you will be pre-screened over the phone and an appointment will be made for you.

What is needed for an appointment?

  • Identification
  • Proof of Address
  • Proof of Income (or Medicaid Card, if applicable)
  • Birth confirmation/certificate for a new birth
  • Immunization Records

Monday: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM

Tuesday-Thursday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Closed Monday 2:00 PM – 2:30 pm and Tuesday-Friday 1:00 PM -1:30 PM
